THE OTHER MIKE
Back in 1995, I wrote a letter to Michael Whelan asking if he’d be interested in presenting his artwork on the web. Long story short, Michael graciously took me up on my offer and I’ve been managing his digital presence ever since. Looking back, it’s hard to believe that was over two decades ago. Yes, our online roots run that deep.
Around the relaunch of MichaelWhelan.com in 2011, I began this microblog as a side project, posting images of Michael’s work daily. Along the way, our following blew up with a feature on Tumblr Radar and when Tumblr officially recognized us in their artists on Tumblr directory. As I write this, we’re approaching 16k followers. That’s pretty amazing!
What you can expect of this blog are posts curated by me, the other Mike. I generally cite any comments that Michael Whelan adds with his signature or initials (MW or MRW). Otherwise, you can assume it’s me talking.
I don’t post off topic very often. This blog is generally about Michael’s work, but occasionally you’ll see me tipping the hat to other artists and writers who I find particularly worthy. You may see me shamelessly promoting my own writing here from time to time.
This all started with my love of Michael’s art, so naturally I enjoy chatting with fans. Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts and ideas. You can message me here on Tumblr. Our asks are always open. If you want a more immediate response, Tweet at me, or hit my official email at the address below.
I do forward noteworthy comments/messages to Michael, and you’ll see his responses here on the blog. You can reach Michael directly through our website or on his Facebook page. He’s hit or miss on Twitter, but sometimes you’ll catch him there as well.
