In the Studio: August 22 - October 4

All of the posts in our month long feature are tagged #in the studio for easy review in case you missed anything or want to circle back and view the originals again.

We’ve never done a feature quite like this in the 20 years I’ve been working on Michael’s website. To be honest, I’ve never had this level of access to originals. I hope you enjoyed the project. Cataloguing Michael’s art was, of course, a labor of love and I’m glad I could share the experience with you.

When will there be more?

There are so many more originals to showcase. Most were behind glass and I simply didn’t have time to pull them out of their frames and sadly I didn’t have the equipment to shoot them properly. There were other paintings I’m holding back because of imperfect photos. For example, I caught a glare off the canvas on SHADOWMARCH and SORCERY RISING that I can’t fix in Photoshop. I want to reshoot those before featuring them.

I have a few more rooms in the studio to sort through including the attic. I’m hoping to get back out to the east coast early in 2018 to continue this project. Look for more in this series then.

What’s next on the calendar?

We’re deep in preparation for Lucca Comics & Games where Michael will be the Artist Guest of Honor. He’ll be exhibiting 30 paintings there in Italy and fans can meet him November 1-5, 2017.

Not long after that comes the release of OATHBRINGER by Brandon Sanderson which is out on November 14, 2017. We’re already getting questions about that and hope to have an update soon on when we’ll be offering a print of Michael’s gorgeous cover illustration.
