Q:I just wanted to say thank you. Your illustrations for Arthur C Clarke's odyssey novels made me want to become an artist. I'm still working on it, but I'm getting there! I do wish there was collection of your work in print though :-(

Thanks for writing J.E.  I passed along your note to Michael but also wanted to address the last part myself.

Michael’s last major collection The Art of Michael Whelan, as I’m sure you’re aware, has been out of print since the mid 90s, but what a fantastic labor of love that book was.

It was an even split between his illustration and his growing collection of personal work.  Published in 1993, it was done before he made the leap to fine art.

Michael always intended to follow up with another volume that featured a heavier selection of gallery work, but for whatever reason it hasn’t happened yet.

Out of curiosity, anyone else interested in a fifth Whelan art book?
