While sitting in front of our table and painting sketches at IX9 (IlluXCon), I looked down and saw something on the palette. I took the pic included below on my phone and then painted the final image there in front of everybody.

IlluXcon 9: October 19 - 23, 2016
Michael Whelan will be among the 90 juried artists displaying in the main show at IX9 (IlluXCon). The groundbreaking IX show is the world’s largest symposium dedicated solely to Imaginative Realism.
This will be Michael’s first appearance there in several years and a great opportunity to meet him and see his paintings in person.
In its ninth installment, the event has grown to an exhibition of over 1000 original works of art, and for the first time it will be held at the Goggleworks Center for the Arts in Reading, PA.
The five-day celebration will also include film screenings, live demonstrations, talks, and opportunities for you to watch artists paint and draw.

IX PREVIEW WEEKEND WITH LIVE PAINTING DEMO! « The Art of Michael Whelan
Michael Whelan will be doing a live painting demo from 10am - 1pm on Saturday September 24 at the Delaware Art Museum. This is a part of a preview show for IX9 (formerly known as IlluXCon) which happens later in October. If you’d like to meet Michael, he’ll be there all weekend with original art on display and available for purchase.
