@whelanmichael Never thought it could be unethical to get an artist’s work tattooed without permission or blessing… no hard feelings?
I’ve never had a problem with anyone getting a tattoo w/ my work in it! Good job there BTW - MRW

We’ve fielded a few questions from nervous fans with Michael Whelan art as tattoos. Breathe easy. We’re talking about commercial exploitation of images here.
It would violate copyright laws to use his copyrighted image in any commercial transaction without his express permission, but Michael does allow you to have one of his images reproduced as a tattoo on your own body.
Although in strict terms the tattoo artist is being paid for the service and it is a commercial transaction, Michael Whelan grants his permission on a one-time basis.
